Nose black (except in Blue Merles), slightly projecting and in no sense blunt, with nostrils of moderate size. Underjaw to be clean cut and strong, but without prominence. Length of foreface in proportion to skull as 3 is to 5, tapering moderately towards the nose, which should be black, slightly projecting and in no sense blunt. Eyes To be of medium size, but giving a sharp and watchful expression, rather widely set with corners clearly defined: preferably dark in colour but clear. Silver eyes permissible in Blue Merles. Ears To be rather large (proportionately to size of dog) and prominent, moderately wide at the base, carried erect and set about 3.5 inches apart and well back so that they can be laid flat along neck. Carried so that the tips are slightly wide of a straight line drawn from the tip of the nose through the centre of the eyes, and set well back so that they can be laid flat along the neck. Mouth Teeth strong, level and sound. Teeth strong, with a perfect regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. the upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth and set square to the jaw.
