The ideal length to height ratio is described in the AKC standard as 1.8:1, which means the body length from the foremost point of the prosternum to the rear of the ischial tuberosity should be 1.8 times as long as the height at the withers.
One method for identifying this ratio has been described as looking for the impression that the dog is twice as long with the coat included, as it is tall at the withers.
